Dr. Karen Veroy-Grepl starts at AICES
Karen Veroy-Grepl has joined the AICES team as a Junior Research Group Leader in September 2009. She received the Bachelor of Science in Physics (1996) from the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, and the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Civil Engineering (2000 and 2003, respectively) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Her research interests are: Reduced-basis methods, particularly for applications in elasticity and fluid flow; reduced-order modeling for optimization and inverse problems; coupled and multiphysics applications.
Arthur-Fischer Prize awarded to Matthias Petschow
Matthias Petschow received at the annual diploma graduation day of the faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Stuttgart Arthur-Fischer Prize for his Diplom thesis. Only three people graduating during the past year in different majors of the faculty have received this distinction.

The prize is awarded annually by the "Nordrhein-Westfälische Akademie der Wissenschaften" for outstanding research accomplishments. The award ceremony takes place on May 13, 2009 in Düsseldorf.

Carl Friedrich Gauß Prize committee

Prof. Wolfgang Dahmen is chairman of the Carl Friedrich Gauß Prize Committee. The prize will be awarded during the opening ceremony of ICM 2010 in Hyberdabad, India on August 19, 2010.
