W2 Professorship for Dr. Roger A. Sauer

On July 1, 2014 AICES Research Group Leader Roger A. Sauer has been appointed Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering.

In 2006 Roger Sauer graduated with a Ph.D. in Computational Mechanics from the University of California at Berkeley, USA. He was a postdoc and Young Research Group Leader at the Leibniz University Hannover before joining AICES in early 2010. Before his appointment as professor he was part of the ‘Junges Kolleg’ of the Northrhine-Westphalian Academy of the Sciences and Arts. He is currently serving as
Deputy Scientific Director of the AICES Graduate School.

Professor Sauer´s research interest focuses on computational contact and adhesion mechanics using nonlinear finite element methods. His current research projects investigate contact of liquids, atomistic-continuum contact modeling, contact optimization and advanced surface discretization techniques. Currently, he advises a group of six doctoral candidates, three master students and one postdoc. His research group is partly funded by the Emmy Noether program of the DFG.
