CAMMP Week Pro 2020 - This Year Digital

The CAMMP WEEK Pro has always been held as an on-site event. For two weeks the students conducted research in groups together in a monastery and presented their results on the last day oft he event. Due to the current Corona Pandemic, an on-site event was unfortunately not possible this year. However, it was important for all participants to find a way to let the event take place again this year. It was therefore decided to hold the CAMMP WEEK Pro digitally for the first time this year. We are very pleased that this could actually be realized! After intensive preparation we were able to offer the students an exciting week with interesting problems.

The CAMMP Week Pro is an excursion in Computer Aided Mathematical Modeling and is aimed at RWTH students of the study programs:
- Mathematics (B.Sc. and M.Sc.)
- Computational Engineering Science (B.Sc. and M.Sc.)
- Simulation Sciences (M.Sc.)
During the CAMMP Week Pro, students work in small groups on real mathematical research questions from various institutes of Forschungszentrum Jülich. They are supported by professors and scientists of RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich. CAMMP week Pro provides an excellent opportunity to practice applied mathematics on concrete, interdisciplinary problems, to establish contacts to professors and to make a name for yourself for final theses and project positions.
Due to the Corona Pandemic, CAMMP Week Pro took place, this year for the first time in digital form, from September 28th to October 9th, 2020.
33 students of different study programs of the RWTH Aachen University worked for two weeks in small groups on six real research questions. These were provided by institutes of Forschungszentrum Jülich and RWTH Aachen University.
Example topics of the CAMMP WEEK PRO were:
- Data Processing Chain for Heterodyne Spectrometer
- Machine Learning in Material Science
- Degradation of Particle-based Electrocatalytic Materials
- Dynamic Properties of Particles Diffusing at the Interface Between Fluids with Different Viscosities
- and much more...
The students were always highly motivated over the whole two weeks and tried to find the best possible solution for the problems with the help of mathematical methods and computer-aided simulations. They communicated and worked via the digital platforms Slack.com and Zoom.us.
Instead of classical presentations, this year's students had to create a scientific video podcast.
The first digital CAMMP Week Pro 2020 was a complete success. We would like to thank all participants, teachers, scientists and all those who were involved in the organization of the event in the background.
