AICES Fellows Launched SIAM Student Chapter
In May 2014 six AICES fellows launched a SIAM Student Chapter at RWTH Aachen University.
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) wants to ensure strong interaction between mathematics and other scientific and technological communities through membership activities, publications, as well as conferences.
Thus, the purpose of a chapter is to generate interest in applied mathematics and computational science by providing a platform for activities, such as discussions about career opportunities in applied mathematics and computational science, lectures given by guest speakers or field trips to industrial laboratories as well as SIAM section meetings. Ideally it involves students and faculty members from different departments, such as engineering, economics or physics.
After distributing posts and responsibilities, a second meeting should define goals, expectations and an annual program. The meeting will take place on August 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm in room 115 of the Rogowski building.
Interested people are cordially invited.
