Prof. Dr. Bob Svendsen appointed to the Chair of Material Mechanics
He received his Masters Degree in Geophysics from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California in 1982, and his PhD Degree in Geophysics from the same institution in 1987. From 1987 to 1988 he worked as a postdoc in ice mechanics at the ETH Zürich. From 1989 to 1995 he was a research assistant and lecturer in the Department of Mechanics at the Technical University (TU) Darmstadt. In 1992, he earned his habilitation degree in the same department. From 1995 to 2000 he worked as a senior researcher at the Federal Institute for Material Research and Testing in Berlin. During this time, he also lectured in the Institute of Mechanics at the TU Berlin. In 2000 he was appointed as Professor of Mechanics in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the TU Dortmund. He has been appointed to the newly created Chair of Material Mechanics at the RWTH Aachen University starting November 1. His research interests include: material science, material modeling, continuum mechanics, simulation.
